Taninthayi Region Chief
Minister gives advice on regional development and rule of law
Taninthayi Region Chief Minister Daw Lei Lei Maw and members of
the regional government, Hluttaw representatives and region-level departmental
officials arrived by air in Kawthaung on 10 October.
The Region Chief Minister met with ward and village-tract
administrators of Kawthaung township in the hall of the General Administration
Department in Kawthaung. Speaking to the officials, she urged them put
more effort into long-term development of the nation, so as to be able to
create an enabling environment in the region that could be left for new generations
in keeping with noble traditions.
She also called for implementation of parallel development between
the districts and the townships in the region and urged the ward and
village-tract administrators to cooperate in carrying out the measures to effectuate
development. The chief minister then fulfilled the demands made by the ward and
village-tract administrators.
Next, the chief minister met district and township-level
departmental officials and explained the current situation of the nation. She
ordered the officials to carefully and regularly patrol at night in their areas
to ensure security because of their region being in the border area. And she
urged the officials to give priority to the tourism industry and the fishing
industry for economic redevelopment of the region. She also urged the officials
to make an effort to keep the township clean and green. And the chief minister
instructed the government servants in the township to discharge their duties
without taking bribes. She noted two garbage trucks which were donated by U
Kyaw Lwin, a hotelier of the Grand Andaman Hotel.
She also met officials of the Education Department and discussed
matters related to the teaching methods of Basic Education Schools, increasing
the percentage of success in matriculation examinations, providing for the
basic needs of the teachers.
She met law enforcement agencies and talked about prevention of
drug trafficking and instructed them to exert greater effort to effectively
prevent narcotics abuse and trafficking in the region and called for the
public to cooperate with officials in order to be able to more effectively
prevent drug use and fight against drug trafficking. — Kyaw Soe
