Rare Myanmar golden deer protected in Shwesettaw Sanctuary

The Myanmar golden deer, a rare species, is being conserved in the Shwesettaw Sanctuary in Minbu (Sagu) Township, Minbu District, Magway Region, according to the Board of Trustees of the Shwesettaw Pagoda.

The Department of Forestry has been keeping the golden deer in the Shwesettaw Sanctuary for the past 10 years and now there are 15 males and 30 females, each of which has to be fed K36,000 per day at a cost of K800 per head. Two workers are assigned to feed and care for the deer.

"Star tortoises and golden deer are among the world's rarest species. Our Myanmar golden deer are native to Myanmar and are extremely rare. We have to take good care of the golden deer cubs,” said U Myint Htay, secretary of the Shwesettaw Pagoda Board of Trustees. – Zeya Htet (Min Bu)/GNLM

      မကွေးတိုင်းဒေသကြီး၊ မင်းဘူးခရိုင်၊ မင်းဘူး(စကု)မြို့နယ် ရွှေစက်တော် ဘေးမဲ့တောဥယျာဥ်တွင် ရှားပါးမျိုးစိတ် စာရင်းဝင် မြန်မာ့ရွှေသမင်များ ရွှေစက်တော်ဘုရား ဂေါပကအဖွဲ့က ထိန်းသိမ်းစောင့်ရှောက်ထားကြောင်း သိရသည်။

      ထိုကဲ့သို့ ရွှေစက်တော် ဘေးမဲ့တော ဥယျာဉ်၌ ရွှေသမင်များ ထိန်းသိမ်း စောင့်ရှောက်ထားရာတွင် လွန်ခဲ့သော ၁၀ နှစ်ခန့်မှ စတင်ကာ သစ်တော ဦးစီးဌာနမှ လွဲပြောင်း ထိန်းသိမ်းခဲ့ခြင်းဖြစ်ပြီး ယခုအချိန်တွင် အထီး ၁၅ ကောင်၊ အမ အ‌ကောင် ၃၀၊ စုစုပေါင်း ရွှေသမင် ၄၅ ကောင်ရှိရာ တစ်ကောင်ကို အစာစရိတ် တစ်နေ့လျှင် ၈၀၀ ကျပ်နှုန်းဖြင့် ၃၆၀၀၀ အကုန်ကျခံ ကျွေးမွေးရပြီး ကန်စွန်းရွက်နှင့် အခြားအရွက်နု ကလေးများကို ရှာဖွေ ဝယ်ယူကျွေးမွေးရကြောင်း၊ ရေတိုက်၊ အစာကျွေးခြင်းနှင့် သမင်များ အနီးကပ်ထိန်းသိမ်း စောင့်ရှောက်ရန်အတွက် အလုပ်သမား နှစ်ယောက်ထားပေးရကြောင်း သိရသည်။

      “ ကြယ်လိပ်တို့ ရွှေသမင်တို့ဆိုတာ ကမ္ဘာ့ ရှားပါးမျိုးစိတ် စာရင်းဝင်တွေပါ ကျွန်တော်တို့ မြန်မာ့ရွှေသမင်တွေ ဆိုရင်လည်း မြန်မာ တစ်နိုင်ငံ တည်းမှာသာရှိတဲ့ ဌာနေဖွား မျိုးစိတ်ဖြစ်ပြီး အလွန်မတန်မှ ရှားပါးတဲ့အတွက် မျိုးသုဥ်း မျိုးဆက်မပြတ်စေ‌ရေး၊ ရွှေသမင်သားပေါက်များ တိုးပွားလာစေရေးတို့အတွက် ဂရုတစိုက် ကျွေးမွေးစောင့်ရှောက် ထားရပါတယ်’’ ဟု ရွှေစက်တော် ဂေါပကအတွင်းရေးမှူး ဦးမြင့်ဌေးက ပြောသည်။

Art digital platform attracts domestic buyer 

Artists from other suburban areas outside big cities are relying on the eCommerce platform to penetrate the domestic market, said Maung Maung San, an artist from Monywa city.

“We relied on foreign demand earlier. Mostly, we sold them with US currency at the precinct of Mingun and Bagan pagodas. Thanks to the domestic market, our business is doing well,” Saya Maung Maung San said.

The COVID-19 global pandemic dealt a blow to the art market. Approximately 1 million worth of my artworks were previously sold per year. In 2020, I earned only K170,000 from my artworks, he added. 

At present, the trade is seemingly alive after a local called Ko Chit Khaing established the Monywa Gallery Art online to showcase the artworks of artists from Monywa City. 

"About 35 paintings were sold through that gallery. I earned about K2 million,” an artist Maung Maung San said.
